The Huron County Development Council is a private, non-profit organization incorporated
under the 501(c)3 provisions of IRS regulations. The Huron County Development Council is
a charitable organization and can receive donations of funds or property.
What HCDC Does
The Huron County Development Council is a networking organization. Officials from
Huron County, membership organizations, and the eight small communities in the county
share information, tips, successful programs, and resources with each other.
The Huron County Development Council maintains files on all Huron County communities
and works with each locality on current updates. Information is provided, upon request,
about the county's business climate, including demographics, work force and support
services, transportation, social services, housing, education, entertainment, and
financing sources.
The Huron County Development Council also maintains an inventory of buildings and
sites in each community that are available for development. Relevant information,
along with mapping and aerial photography is available for each of the sites and
buildings. This information is posted on this web site.
The primary focus of the Huron County Development Council is:
- Retention and expansion of existing business and industry and
- The attraction of new business and industry to Huron County
To some extent, every industry in the county has benefited from the efforts of the
Huron County Development Council, either through our advocacy role or by providing
information to industries on local, state or federal programs related to job training,
financing, or technological assistance.
Why HCDC Exists
The mission of the Huron County Development Council is to improve the economic health
of Huron County. The Huron County Development Council works to create new jobs and
retain those jobs that already exist within the county.
Affiliation w/ OSU Extension
In 1994, the Huron County Commissioners entered into an agreement with Ohio State
University Extension to provide Community and Economic Development Services to the county.
As a result, the Huron County Development Council benefits form having an Ohio State
University Community Economic Development Extension Agent serving as the full-time Director
of the Council. Secretarial services are provided as a result of this affiliation. The
Huron County Development Council now has the ability to tap into the vast resources of The
Ohio State University and their Extension programs in Community and Economic Development.
These programs provide assistance on issues related to the environment, the economy, family,
individual and youth development, and leadership.
